Pub Tables

Pub tables are counter or bar height and are usually less wide than a regular dining room table, although some are equipped with a leaf. They are ideal for smaller areas where a full size table would make the room crowded. They are used often for breakfast areas. If made from weather and bug resistant materials, they can also be used outdoors on patios or by the pool. Pub tables come in all shapes and sizes. They can be made to stand in the center of a room, or stand against a wall like a bar. There is an infinite variety of styles to choose from; anything from rustic and antique to modern and contemporary. They are made out of almost anything, including plastic, glass, frosted glass, and marble, or a combination of any of these. In addition, many different woods are used to build pub tables.

Pub Table Sets

A common characteristic of the pub table is the one pedestal that supports it. Although the bigger ones have four legs, the traditional ones have one support that varies in shape and size. Pub tables can be round, square or rectangular, oval, or even octagon shaped. Some are very similar in shape to a bar. They can be small enough for two people, or can be expanded by using a leaf to accommodate a family. Some are attached to the wall instead of free-standing. Some pub tables are only used as accents in a room, particularly the ones on bright colored pedestals. Pub table sets are also available which include a pub table and chairs. A pub table set is important when matching furniture is desired. Bulk quantities of pub tables and stools are available at furniture warehouses.

Styles

Pub tables come in many different styles. The list is almost endless and if you build them yourself, the styles are only limited by your imagination. There are rustic tables made of wine barrels and pine tops, or ones with a tree trunk for the pedestal. There are Colonial styles with sophisticated wood tops that are ornately trimmed around the edges and are supported by large, heavy pedestals with carved clawed feet. There are many contemporary designs that include drawers underneath the table suitable for a kitchen area. Some tables have footrests and shelves built in, as well as trays that pull out.

Hard Plastic Resin Pub Tables

Hard plastic resin makes an excellent, informal pub table. The bright colors available can liven up any room, and they can be used outdoors as well. Since plastic can be formed into almost any mold, various shapes can be produced to create beautiful arches and curves for pedestals.

Glass Pub Tables

Glass or frosted glass (often coupled with chrome or wrought iron) pub tables are very popular, especially for breakfast rooms. Glass and chrome are often chosen for a contemporary setting and make a kitchen look clean and bright. Glass is often used outdoors and lends a modern touch to any outside setting.

Marble Pub Tables

Marble pub tables are elegant and work well in a modern setting with a large den or dining room. A marble table can look extraordinary in a room with a fireplace. It can enhance a kitchen with marble flooring, particularly if the colors coordinate together, but are not exactly the same. The contrast can be striking. Since marble is waterproof and weather resistant, it is used frequently on outdoor patios or in atriums.

Kinds Of Woods Used

Of the woods used, cherry makes a beautiful and endearing table and goes well with red accents in a room. Oak, in its traditional style, always looks good in a formal dining room. Teak is excellent in a nautical setting such as on a cruise ship, and is also used in places like resorts and hunting lodges. Besides the different kinds of woods used, there are many different finishes as well. Some wood pub tables are painted. Many of them are stained. The hardwoods such as oak and mahogany look particularly rich when stained. Natural wood is also used for pub tables. When kept oiled, it is stunning in a room that is designed in early American.

Prices

The cost of a pub table depends on what it is made of and how elaborate the style is. Finished wood tables with carved clawed pedestals and elaborate trim can cost in the thousands of dollars. Tables made of teak can sometimes cost as much as $1500. Many simple wood pub tables that are elegant but less ornate cost in the $500 range. Glass tables, depending on what they are supported with, such as wood, chrome, or wrought iron, are in the $200 range. The more intricately designed the support is, the more expensive a glass table is. Some of them can cost as much as $1500. By far the least expensive pub tables are the ones made from plastic. They can range from around $150 up to $500, depending on how elaborate the style is. For instance, if the plastic table is totally plastic, it will cost less than one that has a chrome pedestal.
